Mark Zuckerberg Unveils Orion AR Glasses: The 'Time Machine' Revolutionizing Augmented Reality

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has shown the public the first working model of upgraded AR glasses called Orion.

Reuters reported that the Facebook owner announced the Orion at the company's annual conference in California on Wednesday, September 25, 2024.

Zuckerberg, who had earlier theatrically clicked open the metal case at the back of his ears and adjusted the AR glasses, said, “This is a physical world with holograms on top.” The best way to look at this Orion in the meantime is that it takes us back to the year 2000. They do exist; they are cool, and that is a teaser for what’s to come because the future is going to be rocking.

He said these glasses are made of magnesium alloy and operated by silicon developed by Meta. Users can gesture to control new AR glasses using a voice, hand, or wrist-based neural interface.

The 40-year-old also said that Meta had developed these AR glasses for overcade.

According to Meta, the glasses will enable individuals to engage with the digital environment and experience visuals in two and three dimensions by using the physical environment as the screen.

Zuck noted that the company is trying to make the glasses “smaller, sleeker and less costly” before they are released for retail purposes since the current cost of producing them is $10,000 per unit.
